What Loss Do Spirit Beings in the Lake of Fire Suffer?
Posted August 22, 2012
If those in the lake of fire don't have bodies, then what loss do they have to suffer? And if death and the grave are destroyed there, then would it not make sense for each person who dies in the lake of fire to be "losing their body for the last time," so to speak. At the moment that the last participant in the lake of fire dies, is not death and hell now destroyed? For all have been now judged, all enemies, including the bodies of flesh and death, and God is then all in all? What will be the need to appear in physical bodies if everyone enduring the LOF are spirits?
Is the lake of fire not the next step after the 1000 year reign? If so, the judgment would be here on earth would it not? And those who were resurrected in the first resurrection would simply be as Christ, able to come and go, appear and disappear, inclining the hearts and minds of the inhabitants of earth to forsake evil and follow truth in the greatest show of mercy during that age we call the lake of fire?
I understand there is no burning of physical bodies, but my point is, when we suffer loss in these fleshly bodies, we suffer spiritually. We are to overcome the pulls of the flesh whether it be sin, sickness, addiction, false doctrine, etc., etc. The point is, without flesh, what is there to overcome if those in the Lake of Fire are now "immortal"? I need to study more, but I do not think these Lake-of-fire-goers are immortal, else how could God destroy "body and soul" in the Lake of Fire, where there is no "body and soul" in the Lake of fire to begin with? Will those who undergo the lake of fire have the same "pulls of the flesh" if they are resurrected as spirit bodies.
Thanks in advance for your comments,
Here is the verse that tells us that those bodies in the lake of fire are spiritual bodies:
1Co 15:44 It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.
But just like Satan, it is a spiritual body with "terrestrial glory" and with a carnal mind which is "enmity against God".
Rom 8:7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
It is true that if we are in the flesh we cannot please God.
Rom 8:8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
Rom 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
Rom 8:10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
So just as we can be "in the spirit if the spirit of Christ is in us", it is equally true that we can be carnally minded and in rebellion against God is the spirit of our father the devil is in us even as spirits in the lake of fire.
While it is true that spiritual bodies can and do appear as "flesh and bone" that is only true when there is a need for such. That need will exist during the millennium, but there will be no need for physical bodies to appear to spiritual bodies in the lake of fire.
I do not believe you will find any where that I have ever written that we will have physical bodies in the lake of fire following the millennium.
I hope this is all of some help in understanding the invisible things of God by the things that are made.
Your brother in Christ,
You are very right. Being at the gates of the fiery furnace, the destruction of death and hades, DOES require a body, and that terrestrial body is what comes up at the feet of Christ, the same way as the first time we come up before Christ in a BODY of death, in which ALL those sins are contained.
Rev 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have THEIR part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone:[all these 'sins' are in a "body of sins of the flesh", a mortal "body of sin"which is imputed immortality THROUGH...] which is the second death.
So when you and I first came up to Christ in whom resides the consuming fire and those that makes up this lake, we COME to him, to the resurrection, just like ANY MAN in Adam..with a natural body of sin, which OUR PHYSICAL body typifies as you and Jennifer alludes to. Notice, coming to Christ at his judgment seat DOES NOT MEAN or PROVE one has gone THROUGH the resurrection; that is to say, cast in Him and RAISED up to His form/mind.
One is imputed immortality by going THROUGH this lake of fire, (which IS the Second death). Immortality is impacted through the fire of the gospel of Christ, not before it.
2Co 5:10 For we must all [the first man Adam, living soul, mortal BODY of sin, corruptible, weak, dishonour WHEN proven/gone through the Fire) appear BEFORE the judgment seat of Christ; [our fiery/lake of fire experience NOW or Later] that every one may receive the things done in his BODY, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
ONLY one thing the old you and me is going to receive at this judgment; enclosed in a BODY of sin with a soulish, natural mind and carnal heart - that is DEATH and Destruction.
Rom 6:6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the BODY OF SIN might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
Col 2:11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the BODY OF THE SINS of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:
Notice though we focus on the sins that are going to be destroyed, equally we must bear in mind it is all ENCLOSED in a body termed "vile", which THROUGH the lake of fire experience will be changed...raised..INTO a glorious body.
Php 3:21 Who shall CHANGE our VILE body, [..How???] that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.
So the body we FIRST come up with AT the resurrection, BEFORE the judgment seat of Christ, is not this corruptible unclean old man, which you do not yet see its full form, but are fully aware ALL sins dwell in it.
1Co 15:35 But some man will say, How are the dead RAISED up? and with what body do they COME?
How any man of any time will be RAISED into celestial, incorruptible, immortal, powerful in a glorious body of the New Man, is by first coming BEFORE that (white throne) judgment seat in a body prepared for destruction..the body of sin.
Heb 10:5 Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but A BODY hast thou prepared me:
CHRIST's body of flesh came up to this judgment for total destruction. Likewise all men dwell in that body (the True first Adam) will come up to THE judgment with this weaken vessel...and only THROUGH death of the body of death they come to Christ with, will IMMORTALITY be imputed...an event occurring in earnest at this time, converting us into a "glorious" body of Christ that had yet to 100% appear..
1Jn 3:2 Beloved, NOW are we the sons of God, and it doth NOT yet appear what we shall be: ..[..from "vile", "corruptible" body to "glorious", "immortal" bodies] but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.Your brother in Christ,
2Ti 1:10 But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and IMMORTALITY to light THROUGH the gospel:
